Message From The President:
As the year draws to an end, I would like to thank the Association for the privilege in serving you.  This was my second opportunity to be honored by serving the Association as your President.  However, I could not have done what we were able to accomplish without the dedication of several key people.  Loren Pierce has actually done most of the work.  As Editor In Chief of our Newsletter, he has been the driving force in arranging the details of the meetings and providing us with a great newsletter.  Joanne Pierce has done a fantastic job as Secretary-Treasurer.  I know this is at least her second consecutive year in this position and she has done a terrific job.  Thank you to each of you!
A big thank you for each of you who arranged for the wonderful programs we had this last year.  Who will ever forget Bat's?  Not me that is for sure!  I hadn't laughed that hard
in a very long time.
During our November 12th meeting, we will have an election of officers for the 2003 year.  Please, give thought to nominations and a commitment of support to those elected.  We have made giant progress, but there is much left to do.  Your continued support - with your dues, your physical attendance and your participation is vital to the success and level of enjoyment the Association can offer.  After all, as with anything, if you keep doin what your doin, you'll keep gettin what your gettin.
If that sounded like a challenge, it is.  The Southwest Iowa Peace Officers Association was not mine, while President.  And it will not belong to the next President.  It's your Association.  It can only be what each of us put into it.  It is my hope that you will continue your support to the Association and the next administration.  They will continue the professional status the Association has and does stand for, but they will need our help.
In closing, thank you once again for the opportunity to serve.  I hope we made a difference.  I look forward to seeing each of you in Council Bluffs on November 12th.

Be Safe and Remain Strong,
Chief of Police Steve Roberts
Red Oak Police Department

In 2000, the membership voted to establish a law enforcement assistance scholarship.  The scholarship is to be awarded to a family member of a association member who is attending college and majoring in public safety.
A portion of the membership dues, each year, is designated to be applied toward the scholarship.  Recipients are selected each year by a scholarship board.
Kevin Veon of Stanton and Amber Jennings of Red Oak
are both planning on a degree in Criminal Justice.  Each will
receive a $250.00 award, at the completion of their first semester.
